When unsure, go back to the basics!

When you are feeling sluggish, down, less energy, just out of whack, go back to a simple basic list and check if you are doing at least these right first.
So here are my few basic checklist:

For the body:
1. Eliminate dairy, beef and gluten.
2. If you eat out, order half vegetables, bit of protein, but if there are no good healthy carbs like Khorosan or other ancient grains, skip the carbs.
3. Eat more greens and dark greens.
4. Take the time to chew your food: at least 30 times per small bites. It will help with digestion and you won't want to eat too much. Mindful eating have proven to help with digestion and stress. Sit when you eat too. When you are standing, your mind is at work about your upright position, so relax and sit to eat, but remember to not squeeze your belly with round back when seated, sit upright and bring the food toward you, not your head toward the plate!
5.Water: 7-9 cups a day of filtered water. Avoid plastic bottles as much as possible. First thing when you wake up, brush your teeth and drink a glass to prepare your stomach inner lining.
6. Detox from coffee and especially energy drinks. Coffee is a stimulant and is acidic. Energy drinks contain a depressant and stimulant, which is too much stress to the heart. So must AVOID!!!
7. Stay away from added sugar, white sugar, high fructose corn syrup, anything too sweet, and processed food. Try to cook more, it's healthier as you know what you are putting in or leaving out.
8. Check if you eat mostly alkaline food. PH on our skin must be slightly acidic to keep a defense mechanism, but most of our food we put inside must turn alkaline to have a balanced inner environment. You can test by putting a PH strips on your saliva.
9. Are you getting enough sleep? Is your pillow the right one for your sleeping position? Are you able to get a good, uninterrupted sleep? After 7-9 hours sleep, do you feel rested or you feel you are still not that energized?

For mind and stress management:
Because we are more than just this body, to take good care of ourselves means more than just eating well.
1. Is the air in your place clean? Perhaps think about getting an air filter.
2. Yoga: not only on the yoga mat at a yoga studio or with a private teacher, but be mindful and be conscious of your body and mind all the time. Practice the breathing techniques like Sitali (inhale and exhale between teeth and lips) when it's hot and to relax your mind.
3. It doesn't have to be a long 30 minutes, it can be just 5-10 minutes a day of nothingness: empty stare, empty mind, stay away from all electronic devices, meditate through your senses or inhale deeply and release an Aaaaaaaahhhh! as you exhale.
4. Draw, doodle, create, make something like mandala, paint, sew, sculpt, gardening...we all have this need to create, make something with our hands or see something or someone grow. So find your IT to release that creative side somehow.
5. Have you tried a sound healing session? Osteopath? Private yoga therapy with a certified teacher or therapist who specializes in alignment?
6. Declutter your cabinets, drawers, everything in your house. Recycle, give away, throw away what you don't need. This will help you let go and release stress as well.
7. Three major areas in our life must be in check to have a holistic health: healthy nutrition, yoga for mind and body connection and awareness, plus good company. The latter might mean that you must resolve an unresolved issue with a brother, friend, sister, mom, or dad. It is like facing our tension on a muscle or fascia, we must face it to find the source of our problem, not cover it up with lies or band-aid. Find a good time and place to deal with any icky social tension. Be honest, sincere, no more coverups, be true and authentic to yourself! Cheers~
